Day #761 (Fri., Feb. 3, 2012) – Best School Day Yet

My wife tells me that this was the best day yet as far as Katie and school goes. They did some painting and Katie just loved it. When it came time to clean up she went along with it no problem. She even sat still for storytime. The teachers told my wife to tell me what a good girl Katie was today.

On the way home from work I met my wife and Katie at our neighborhood pool. Katie ran up to the car and made me go back to the playground with her so that I could see her go down the slide a couple of times.

My wife went to bed early as she was tired so I tended to Katie this evening. I tried to put her to bed one time…but here it is 11:19pm and we are watching “Little Bear” on television. I made some warm milk and a bowl of goodies (i.e.: oyster crackers with raisins) for her to munch on. She doesn’t appear to like the milk or oyster crackers too much, but the raisins seem to be big sellers. At least she is getting something into her stomach. Hopefully it will be enough for her to sleep…

Day #760 (Thu., Feb. 2, 2012) – Chicken On The Bus

Katie was up when I left for work this morning. She was not too happy to see daddy leaving, but it always helps when she can peer at me through the bedroom window as I get into the car and head down the road. I wave to her and say bye…she seems fascinated by the whole process.

Where does the time go. I was going to finish painting off the baby doll crib this week but the time just flew. The weekend will soon be here and I always seem to find more time to do stuff like this.

I’ve been reading up on preschool science activities for toddlers and young children…found a couple of good books that I recommend here…

Katie is really into the song “Wheels On The Bus” these days. When I sing it I add the “chicken on the bus” part (which is not standard by any means). Katie just stared at me at first but I think she’s gotten used to it by now.

Day #759 (Wed., Feb. 1, 2012) – Chip Bag Clips Gonna “Get Cha”

2012-02-01 - Blanket In The Mouth

Katie can put the foam fishes into the foam puzzle with regularity these days. All of a sudden she just seemed to “get it”.

Katie brought some clips to me that we use to secure the top of the potato chip bag. I chased her down and clipped her onesie with it…so Katie decided to make a game out of it. She would bring one to mommy and get her to chase her down…then back to daddy again.

Katie came running out of the bedroom this evening with a big roll of tape. Not sure where she got it, but it appears that she can get to almost anything at anytime she wants these days. I think what I’m going to do is clear out the drawers in my filing cabinet. I can put some stuff in there. There is a latch on the drawers so it will be harder for her to get at things if they are inside. I just need to get some cardboard boxes to store all the file folders…no idea where I’m going to put those boxes. Like everything else, into the garage I guess.

Day #758 (Tue., Jan. 31, 2012) – Colorful Foam

2012-01-31 - Mattress Pattern

I’ve added a new theme for Baby-Comments.com, one called “Catalyst”. It is a much more advanced theme so once I can learn how to implement all the features it will much easier to navigate around. One new feature, the “what was Katie doing one year ago” comes in quite handy. With the click of one button you can find out what she was doing exactly one year ago today.

Dance class for Katie this morning. Seems like ages since I went there with her. Only my wife and Katie went this morning. I guess Katie still doesn’t like to follow the instructions of the teacher much…but we hope that will change at one point.

I went to the Dollar Store at noon today and picked up some colorful foam pages for Katie. You can cut various shapes out of them but we don’t want Katie to play with scissors at such a young age so she can “patch” on them instead. When I gave them to her this evening she was more interested in throwing them about, but once I showed her how to patch on them she got the hang of it real quick. Some of the crayons were softer than others and created a darker image. A train on this one a tree on that. Soon we had some nice colorful flash cards.

Day #757 (Mon., Jan. 30, 2012) – Ramona’s New Car

2012-01-30 - Watching TV

3am and Katie is up. Unlike other mornings where she cries and needs comforting, she got up and said “Play Bears”. She wanted to play with her wooden bears where you change their clothes. She wanted both my wife and I to play with her, so we did. Eventually she got tired and was off to bed again…

I drove our babysitter Ramona to North Raleigh so she could pick up her new car this evening.

This evening we played a game with Katie. We would run around her bear puzzle (which was on the floor in the living room) and then run down the hallway and back again. She got a great kick out of it. She especially liked it when I would run up to her, touch her and say “Tag You’re It”.

Day #756 (Sun., Jan. 29, 2012) – My Nap Ritual For Katie

We had another Skype session with my mother this morning as we were unable to get a connection yesterday. I showed her how the baby doll crib is coming along. Sure enough, as soon as Katie saw it she got inside it…jumped on it a bit…and then sat down in it. Sure makes me happy that I decided to make it extra tough. No way she is going to break this crib.

Katie wouldn’t go to bed for her nap this afternoon so I let my wife go to bed while I tended to her. I just let her watch a bit of television then I take her to the nursery to change her diaper. I ask her if she enjoyed her morning and a bit of a story. When I put her to bed I lay the sleeping blanket out flat…she seems to like that. I then arrange her dolls around her and read her a bit of a story. I turn the Waterfall Soother on and then say goodnight. This seems to work…at least a lot of the time.

I took Katie to the park this afternoon while my wife cleaned up the living room. We ended up at the park near Lochmere…it’s been a while since she has been there. She started off by trying out the slide and then she quickly moved onto the swing. After a stint in the sandbox she went back to the swing, then the toucan, then the slide,a nd then…”roam”. We ended up near the basketball court. Eventually I asked her if she wanted to go watch “Mary Poppins” and home and she walked over to the car. In the end we were gone for a good 2.5 hours.

Day #755 (Sat., Jan. 28, 2012) – Sleeping Blanket In The Mouth

We tried to do a Skype with my mother this morning but for some reason she couldn’t connect. We talked on the phone instead. I tried to get Katie to say hello to grandma but she was having too much fun getting into “everything and anything”.

Katie was running around with her sleeping blanket in her mouth this morning. Not sure what that is all about…perhaps she is teething. At any rate when I asked her why she just stared at me. I decided that I would put a sleeping blanket in my mouth and run up and down the hallway. Katie thought this was great fun and ran after me with her sleeping blanket in her mouth. Soon we had quite the parade going…first with the sleeping blanket in our mouths, then around our necks, then on our heads. Katie even gave my wife a sleeping blanket so she could join in.

My wife took Katie to the park this afternoon so I could put the finishing touches on the baby doll crib. It’s taking a while for a finished product on this but it will sure be nice. I sanded it down and put some filler in some of the holes. Plan to sand it down again this evening and put some primer on it. A few coats of spray paint and afix the flower and that will be it. My wife called me when she was done her walk and I picked her and Katie up at the swimming pool area in our community.

Day #754 (Fri., Jan. 27, 2012) – Squeak Squeak “The Mouse”

It was raining like mad when I left for work. I rushed to the patio to see how badly soaked the baby doll crib was. My wife remembered to bring it in so it was safe. Great…

Katie went to her school class this morning. My wife told me that the teachers were asking about me. I guess I went to the first couple of classes and now I am not going anymore so they were wondering what happened.

I was working on my laptop in the bedroom this evening when Katie arrived on the scene with the mouse from my wife’s laptop. I asked her “What are you doing with mommy’s mouse”? She replied “Squeak, Squeak”. She heard the word “mouse” and replied back what a “mouse” says…not necessarily the mouse that she currently was in possession of.

Not soon thereafter she arrived on the scene with the power supply and cord from mommy’s laptop. The mouse was such a bit hit why not try the power supply?

Day #753 (Thu., Jan. 26, 2012) – The Toilet Paper Roll

Looks like today promises to be a rather sunny day so I decided that I would give the baby doll crib another touch up of yellow paint to see if it has stopped seeping through to the wood. once I get this issue resolved I will be ready to put on the finishing touches.

I called my wife around 5:30pm this evening to tell her that I was heading for home. She said that we might need to go for a drive when I get home…Katie is in one of her fussy moods. When I arrived home it was after 6pm so we figured that we would just wait a bit longer and Katie would go to bed for the evening. Here’s to wishful thinking…

This evening Katie decided that she would examine all the sheets in a toilet paper roll. She ripped them off one by one til there was a little pile of toilet paper sheets on our bed. Let’s hope that she got this out of her system and will not do the same with every roll of toilet paper that she encounters.

Later in the evening we discovered why Katie was fussy. She had a nice #2 and she started to calm down after that. “Ah what a relief it is”…

Day #752 (Wed., Jan. 25, 2012) – Pen Working … Pen Not Working

The weather has been so bad as of late work on the baby doll crib has taken a back burner. I need sunny weather so that I can paint it outside and let the sun dry it. Who wants to have paint fumes indoors.
Katie was so excited that Ramona took her to the park today.

Katie took two of her sleeping sacks and gave one to Ramona and said “One for you” and then gave one to my wife and said “One for you.

Katie was playing with a pen this evening and figured out that by pushing the button on the top the pen would write and by pushing it again the pen would not write. Quite the trick.
