My wife had to go on some errands so I was home with little Katie this morning. She started to cry and when I came to pick her up she gave me this great broad welcoming smile. Change the diaper…check. Give her the bottle…not so smoothly. She just would not take the bottle. I tried everything and she cried and cried. I then started to walk around the house and she at least let the nipple stay in her mouth while she “gummed” it. When my arms started to wear out I sat down in the rocker and let her look at the fan that was circling overhead. By the time my wife came home she had consumed 0.5 oz of the 2.o oz milk in the bottle.

2010-04-06 - New Outfits

My wife went to two separate stores today to find some hats for little Katie, but they were out of stock. She ended up ordering some from the internet. They should be here soon.

I got a package in the mail today from someone I used to work with. I sent her an email when little Katie was born and she said that she would send her a gift. Out of the blue a week or so ago I got an email from her stating that she didn’t forget…she just got real busy (I think we can all identify with that sentiment these days). Today I got her package in the mail. It was three beautiful outfits for little Katie to wear (photo on the right). She obviously did her homework as they were for a 9 month old child…and little Katie can already wear one of them. The other two she is almost ready to wear. Given the sizes little Katie will be able to wear them for quite a while (hopefully). What a nice gift to receive…right out of the blue!

I finally figured out how to get little Katie to look at you. Life is so fascinating for her that she will look all over the place if there is a lot of stimulation. What you do is put your hand over her eyes. She will then frantically look around for something to look at, and if the only option is your eyes or your hand, she will look into your eyes and give you a big smile.

WHAT I LEARNED TODAY

————————————
1) Little Katie will at least let the nipple of the bottle stay in her mouth if she find something interesting to look at.
2) How to get little Katie to look into your eyes.

Little Katie seems to like the sound machine that is on the Graco “Pack ‘n Play”. Sometimes if she is fussy and won’t sleep it helps to calm her down.

2010-01-03 - Package From Home

The snow and ice finally melted enough that we could get out and about today. I picked up the package my mother mailed to us, and my wife got the package that her mother had sent to us, so it was a busy day in the mail department. Take a look at the condition of the package from my mother. Is there any wonder why the Post Office is having financial problems given this TLC?

Both of the packages were loaded with clothes and other goodies for little Katie. I will post some pictures of the goodies as time permits.

9:17pm and little Katie is into “staring mode”. She sometimes get into this mode where she just stares at my wife for minutes and minutes. No real expression, just an intense look of “what’s going on”.

We also notice that she loves to stare at lights. There is a lamp on the nightstand next to my wife that she is fascinated with. She is also interested in the adjustable lamp near my side of the bed. The light that streams in from the outside when she is being changed seems to provide no end of interest.

WHAT I LEARNED TODAY
————————————
1) Pack your packages well if you want them to survive.

7:45am – It’s another day in baby land. My wife was holding her and I poked my head in to say “Hi Baby”. She gave us both this warm inviting smile. She surely does recognize our voices and is getting more accustomed to her parents each and every day.

2010-01-22 - Red Hooded Coat

Remember I mentioned that a friend stopped by to see the baby on Tuesday? Well, I should mention another great little item she brought for the baby. Here it is (shown on the picture to the left)…a nice red hooded coat. Little Katie will be the “Princess Of The Party” showing some baby style when she shows up in this number…

My wife tells me that little Katie will be going to the next level in diapers soon. We have exactly 11 newborn diapers left and since she weighs almost 9 lbs we will be going to level #1. Exciting times…our little Katie is growing…

Little Katie just finished nursing and was lying back on her mother’s lap. She was smiling for quite a while and started to laugh. Wonder what the joke was?

It’s 7:21pm and my wife just got a package from a friend in Oregon. It included a lot of nice baby clothes, hooded towels and even some perfume for my wife. My it’s nice to have good friends…

1) How quickly babies grow!
