Day #297 (Wed., Oct. 27, 2010) – The 2nd Baby Gate

On October 20, 2010 Graco recalled 2 million strollers due to risk of entrapment and strangulation. When a child is not harnessed he/she can pass through the opening between the stroller tray and seat bottom, but his/her head and neck can become entrapped by the tray. Infants who become entrapped at the neck are at risk of strangulation. Four infants died and five were injured this way.

Our stroller happened to be among the recalled ones, so we ordered a repair kit. It came today. It took a while for my wife to install it, but I guess we have a safer stroller now. Even though we don’t understand how and why anybody would leave a not harnessed child unattended, we decided to put that additional part anyway – just in case…

My wife is charging Roomba. She hopes that it will pick up all tiny trash that Katie loves putting in her mouth.

When I arrived home this evening the 2nd baby gate was waiting for me at the front door. Guess I know what I will be doing tonight.

2010-10-27 - 2nd Baby Gate

I almost didn’t get to putting the 2nd baby gate on this evening…but when I learned how much my wife would benefit from it I mustered up the strength. You can see the layout of the new arrangement in the photo to the right. My wife has been putting our lazyboy over the hallway in an attempt to keep our little chipmunk out of the livingroom. Now she will be able to rest as ease knowing that a 2nd baby gate is keeping our little chipmunk at bay.

Little Katie supervised the installation of the baby gate of course. She wanted to pick up and suck on any drill, bit, or screwdriver within arms reach, but my wife kept hauling her back by her feet. She would cackle with laughter…

WHAT I LEARNED TODAY

1) Little Katie will be able to roam the hallway in safety now.
