Day #5536 – (Mon., Mar. 3, 2025) – More “Scratch” Please!

Katie went to school today, but Bobby is sick, so he stayed home. Katie had her mom pick her up at school after science class, before English & PE class.

Our neighbor Robert is building something new next to his garage (see photo to the right).

It would be nice to get some new baby chicks this spring, but there is just too much going on right now… We would also have to take into consideration integrating them with the two we have now, and protecting them from eagles and hawks. Who knows, one hen died mysteriously a few days ago, so we might have no chickens by next spring and can start anew…

I need to get some more “scratch” for the chickens to enjoy. In farming or agriculture, chicken “scratch” is a mix of grains and seeds (like cracked corn or millet) used as feed for chickens. It’s less nutritionally balanced than formulated feed but can be a treat or supplement. For now they can enjoy the tortilla chips that I pick up at Costco…they really like those!

Our neighbor Carolyn is “Spring Cleaning” and getting ready for gardening as well with a little yard fire (see photo to the right).

Well low and behold, the 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico are set to take effect at midnight tonight. Canada is set with their tariff plan as well. The Wall Street Journal is calling this the stupidest tariff war in history, so let’s see how this all plays out. I saw a video today where when Canada buys goods from Mexico, they enter and leave the US via truck and are not taxed or tariffed at all in the US, since it’s an agreement from Canada and Mexico. Let’s see if this policy will continue to exist… Maybe we should buy all our fresh fruits and vegetables from Mexico instead of the US if this is the case?
