Day #5574 – (Thu., Apr. 10, 2025) – Bobby’s Soccer Eye

Bobby is not feeling well after the “soccer ball incident” the other day, so he stayed home from school today and rested with Maple (see photo to the left).

Katie went to school though. Katie even managed to get a “proficient” in Ms. Lance’s PE class.

Katie and her mother played tennis on the driveway this afternoon.

I’m thinking of getting some chicks and called up Shar-Kare this morning for some advice. They said that they had two chick types available, Barred Rock (the black one to the right) at $10 each and Buffed Orpington (the yellow one to the right) at $15 each. Apparently the Buffed Orpington is a more “exotic” bird and you will get a few more eggs from them over the course of a year. The guy I talked to said that I needed to come and get them within the next few days as they go quickly.

There are a lot of things to consider rather than just getting the chicks. They need to be separated from our current rooster and hen till they can protect themselves. We will need to get some kind of a little coop for them along with a heat lamp. They also eat different types of food. Apparently Maureen used to try to incorporate new hens to her flock but there were always problems. I was going to take Katie to Shar-Kare to take a look at them after school today but I’m going to do some more homework first.
