Day #5597 – (Sat., May 3, 2025) – Hen & Hog Breakfast!

My wife and Katie took Bobby to soccer this morning. When they returned I had Daddy/Son Day #93 with him. I’ve been thinking of taking him to the “Hen & Hog” restaurant in Courtenay for a while now, and today is the day! I always felt bad that he was not able to go with us the last time we were here as he was in Chapel Hill with Arnesa. He loves the bacon there, so today’s the day to make up for it…

As we entered the restaurant we saw a sign saying that they have a new “Smores Waffle”! The waiter even mentioned this to Bobby as he was sure that he would like it! There were two other families in front of us, but people were leaving the tables and we didn’t have to wait long. Bobby wanted both an adult and kid’s menu to choose from.

Well, Bobby had a hard time deciding. I made the suggestion that he pick his favorite, and if that was not filling enough, we could choose something else. In the end I ordered their “Hen & Hog” classic and Bobby ordered the Smore’s Waffles, and we shared (see photo to the right)! Before the meal came I got a coffee and Bobby got a hot chocolate, which he loved. When the Smore’s Waffles came Bobby could not stop eating the marshmallow fluff! For the choice of eggs on the “Hen & Hog” classic Bobby opted for hard boiled, so we each had one of those. Bobby also wanted a side order of ham!

As expected, Bobby’s eyes were bigger than his stomach, and we got a “doggie bag” to go home. On the way home Bobby was complaining that he ate too much, so I asked him if he wanted me to pull over a couple of times. Eventually we made it, and he waddled into the house, “doggie bag” in hand. I reminded him to be quiet as his mother and sister were both taking a nap. I asked Katie why she needed a nap to day and she said “I’ve been really emotionally weird lately, maybe my body’s tired too!”.

My wife is having a hard time locating the screwdriver, so putting the hook on the wall to hold Katie’s guitar will have to wait.

We’re back to shutting the gate manually so the deer will not destroy our plants. That automatic gate can’t come soon enough.
