Day #5637 – (Thu., June 12, 2025) – Graduation Gifts!

My wife and I went to Vanier High School at 10:30 am this morning for the award presentation. Katie is on the “Honor Roll” (see photo to the left) as she got proficient and extending on all her courses. Next year, if she maintains an “A” average, she will be able to be on the “President’s List” and get recognized for that as well.

Katie’s Cricut System came this afternoon, so today is the day in which we are going to give the kids their “Graduation Presents”. This will give them 2+ weeks to enjoy them before they head off to Lithuania and Europe for the summer. To prep I put Bobby’s bike outside the main door of the house. I then put the Amazon box holding Katie’s CriCut System behind the LazyBoy she was sitting in. At this point all that was left to do was to call Bobby down to the family room and announce “Special Presents” (something that they have not heard in a long while.

First up, we told the kids that we were proud of them for doing so well in school, and we realized that this has been a real tough year on them. I then told Katie that her gift was behind the LazyBoy. She opened it and was very excited and happy. I then told Bobby that his gift was just outside the front door (see photo to the right). Was he ever excited and happy!

Next up we all too a drive to Huband, Bobby on his new bike, and Katie his mom and I in the 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid. Bobby enjoyed trying out the “electric” part of the bike, but he did pedal a bit as well. He knew enough to walk his bike across the crosswalk. Once at Huband I showed Bobby how to use the combination lock to secure his bike, and then we all drove home.

Bobby now has a key to a vehicle, and we talked about various ways in which he could put it in a safe place. He expressed a desire for a new keychain, so off we went, to Canadian Tire (Daddy/Son Day #95), to pick one out. He opted for a coiled wire ring, and a “fish” keychain as well (see photo to the left). We also picked up another coiled wire ring so that we can keep his other bike key looking similar as we will be storing it in the main house with the rest of the keys. Bobby picked up a lollipop on the way out.

My wife wanted a smart phone with a Canadian phone number, so we went to Walmart next to pick one up. On the way out Bobby wanted an “Oh Henry” chocolate bar and some bubblegum, so I relented. We were at Walmart a lot longer than I wanted and he was probably starving.
