Our four hens are gradually getting used to their new home (see photo to the right). Valentine? He still freaks out from time-to-time!
Bobby’s class went on a school trip to a “Salmon Hatchery” today. They got to see how salmon are spawned and even got to see one dissected. Bobby said it was quite exciting at first, but the day dragged on towards the end.
Katie was studying for her physics test tomorrow and that kinda stressed her out.
Today was the first meeting of the “Model UN” club at Vanier. It was held after school, and she was very excited that most of the kids were older and very helpful towards the younger ones. By the way, Here’s Katie’s questions and answers to apply for the “Vancouver Model UN (VMUN)”:
- What other activities are you involved in that would prepare you to be a delegate at VMUN? I participate in the Interact club at my school, and enjoy being involved in a community that works to help those around us. This ties into my love for human rights, as we often support those types of causes. I will also be attending RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), which is a local leadership experience where I’ll get to learn and apply leadership skills. I believe this knowledge will help me communicate effectively with fellow delegates and form solutions.
- What was your reasoning behind your position and committee requests? The committees I’ve chosen greatly reflect my views and interests. I am very passionate about human rights and equality, and I can see myself thriving in a committee that is tailored to those concepts, such as UNHRC, SOCHUM, or DISEC. As for the positions I’ve selected, I am inspired greatly by Finland and it’s society, and have Finish heritage, so having Finland as a choice was a no-brainer. I’m also the daughter of a Lithuanian, and have spent a summer there myself, so I feel connected to the country and its culture, and would love to represent it.
- Is there any other information we should know about you? I am very grateful for my education, and enjoy learning through an accelerated learning path at my school as well as online courses, to make the most of my time in high school. Outside of academics, I enjoy playing viola and have done so for 4 years. I love watching documentaries, reading, and cuddling with my cat.
