Day #5763 – (Thu., Oct. 16, 2025) – Meeting Mishka!

Bobby rode his bike to school this morning. Today they did some art, coloring in a face drawing. His class is gearing up for something creative again soon: transforming pumpkins into people.

This afternoon my wife took the kids over to Caroline’s place to meet her new German Shepherd puppy, Mishka (see photo to the right). She’s all paws and curiosity right now, tumbling through the grass like she’s inventing play for the first time.

Caroline’s been dealing with a daily visitor of her own: a black bear that wanders through her yard as if it’s clocking in for work. My wife harvested some apples and pears from our trees today…from the “bites” it looks like the ravens have been helping us as well.

Thursday is Katie’s “Club Day”. She has “Interact Club” at lunch, then “Model UN” after school. Emma and her are going to chum around during Halloween this year, and Katie is super excited about that.

Back at home, practical matters keep the farm rhythm steady. Maureen, the previous owner, left an electronic “Rat Killer” in the barn. It’s just out of juice and waiting for new 4D batteries.

And around the valley, the RCMP are getting into the spirit too — turning part of their station into a “Haunted Cell Block” for Halloween. Only in Comox Valley can you find a police station doubling as a haunted house.
