At 3 pm today the whole family went to the White Spot restaurant in Courtenay for a family meal. My wife had the salmon, I had a double burger, Bobby had the “Pirate Ship” burger, and the birthday girl Katie had the “Pirate Ship” mac & cheese (see photo to the left). We all shared an appetizer of onion rings beforehand.
I was reading online that the bowling alley might be open on Sunday, but when I swung by it was closed. Katie’s next choice was to Benino’s to play “Comoxopoly”. Bobby had a sundae at the White Spot and Katie didn’t want anything so my wife got some gelato and I picked up a Canadiano with a cherry macaroon square. We all had fun playing the Comoxopoly game, but I came up with the idea of making our own version of it since we have a color printer and a 3D printer. This would be a fun project for Bobby to work on when he is not online, since we are trying to limit his online activity.

Next up was to come back home and open Katie’s gifts and have some of the Quality Foods “Cookies & Cream” birthday cake (see photo to the right). We were greeted when we entered by an upset garbage can that was dragged across the floor with the contents everywhere. Maple obviously smelt something.
Katie got some gag socks, a plush animal, and various candies in a gift basket from my wife and I. Bobby gave her a card and some guitar picks and a holder that he made from the 3D printer.
My wife was able to change Katie’s drivers lessons to February so she is super happy about that!
Katie wrote in her journal that this was her best birthday ever. Here are her three highlights:
- Comoxopoly at Benino’s
- Putting candles on her birthday cake with Bobby
- Mac & cheese at the White Spot
