Day #1140 (Sat., Feb. 16, 2013) – Daddy’s Birthday

2013-02-16 – Birthday Card

Today is daddy’s birthday. Katie made me a birthday card (see photo to the left). My wife tried to get her to make me a birthday card last year but she was not as cooperative. After opening my present Katie said “I want a present” so my wife gave her a number train that she picked up at a consignment sale a while back.

We were supposed to go to the birthday party of one of Katie’s classmates this morning but as Katie had a fever last night and her nose is running today we decided that we would all stay at home. Large snowflakes were falling this morning and she put up such a fuss to go outside and play that we relented. We warmed her up warmly and she spent quite a bit of time trying to catch snowflakes on her tongue. We had a Skype session with my mother so she could watch.

Katie knows what macaroni is. She has taken to the song “Yankee Doodle Went To Town” (Becca taught her) and always laughs when she reaches the spot where the feather is called macaroni. When I asked her if she knew what macaroni is she replied “macaroni are like noodles”. She comes up with such great description of things (remember her description of a squirrel a while back?).

Our “No Sleep” child refused to have a nap today. We thought that this would mean she would be going to bed early, but that was definitely not the case. When nighttime came it still proved to be quite the challenge to put her to bed. I even took her out for two drives in the car…but no luck. She did nod off in the car during the second drive but as soon as we got home she was up again.

As the night drew on we decided that we had better “tag team” Katie again. Eventually Katie gave up…
