Day #1894 (Thu., Mar. 12, 2015) – Little Bobby’s First Full Day

I must have changed little Bobby’s diaper about five times in the middle of the night. That marconium is thick black stuff…like tar.

2015-03-12 - Daddy's BedMy wife is not getting much sleep as she has to nurse little Bobby but apparently exhausted daddy slept like a log in the morning. The nurses were exclaiming that they had a “Sleeping Beauty” in the room. You can see “Sleeping Beauties” fold-out bed in the photo to the right.

At 10:40am this morning I sent out an email to my workmates announcing little Bobby’s arrival.

11am and we heard pounding under our feet. Soon afterwards the air conditioning in our room went on and the room is cooling down and down. Incidentally, little Bobby started crying at the same time. Is he sensitive to the cold? The only thing that seemed to calm him down was resting on his mother’s breast.

Around 11:30am I walked to the nursing desk and asked if I could borrow a carrot. I told her we are building a snowman in our room as it is so cold and need it for the nose. She said “Ahhh” (as in how cute).

Nikki sent us an email stating that she printed out a picture of little Bobby and Katie took it to Show & Share at preschool.

12:30pm – I just opened the door to our room to let the cold air out. It’s warmer in the hallway. I went to the other information desk to ask if they had any raw meat they want to store we have room in our room. At least now we don’t need to worry about not having a refrigerator.

12:50pm – My wife just started to eat her lunch. She ordered a turkey sandwich and they gave her a roast beef sandwich. I knew Duke couldn’t keep up this facade of “perfection” for long. At least if there is any mayo on the roast beef sandwich we don’t have to worry about it spoiling due to the heat. Oh, I just heard the guy with the hammer banging on the floor below us. He’s “fixing” the air conditioning again I guess.

By 2pm they fixed the air conditioning…well, the guy decided he would shut it off and then try to fix it. At least in this way we won’t have cold blasts of air coming down on us.

I went down to the cafeteria to get some lunch this afternoon. I picked up a salad with 1000 island dressing, vegetable soup, a large black coffee and an ice cream for Katie.

2:45pm – Nikki brought Katie over for a visit. I bought some “Chocolate Marshmallow Swirl” ice cream for Katie as I thought she would enjoy it. Did she ever. She would take turns eating it and running over to the bed to see little Bobby. They left at 3:15pm.

3:30pm – I’ve been waking little Bobby up so that my wife could feed him. He has been falling asleep on her breast in the midst of feeding. My secret weapon is to take off his diaper and “blow” on his private area. Nothing like a little cold blast of air down there to wake one up. 4-5 individual trips and about 30 minutes of feeding.

4pm – 5:30pm – Both my wife and I were exhausted so we slept like logs. The nurse woke my wife up at 5:30pm to tell her that they were taking little Bobby for a hearing test. I slept a bit longer til 6:00pm. That’s one nice thing about going home tomorrow (if it happens)…there will be nobody to wake us up.

7:15pm – My wife is feeding little Bobby now. His previous feeding was at 4:15pm so he went for 3 hours. After a very slow start he has gotten the hang of feeding. Previously all he wanted to do was sleep. Perhaps this was due to his low blood sugar. Now that he is getting more nourishment he’s going at it like a champ.

7:45pm – My wife had her first little walk this evening. It was only for about one minute, down the hallway and back but at least it was a little walk. She held on to the trolley that little Bobby was resting on as I walked along side them.

8:00pm – Little Bobby weighed in at 9lbs 15oz (i.e.: 4500 grams).

8:15pm – My wife has started to produce milk.

8:35pm – My wife’s back is bothering her so much they brought some Oxycodon for her.
