Day #9 (Tue., Jan. 12, 2010) – Bye Bye Umbilical Bye Bye

6:00am – Little Katie is sleeping more and more at night, which means my wife and I are sleeping more and more at night. Looks like we might have crossed the border of the “sleep depraved”.

10:00am – Little Katie is still sleeping. A friend gave us a nice white travel bag??? (for lack of a better term). The wrapping goes as such: little Katie, diaper, white “onesie”, blue burrito wrap, this white travel bag. Salsa is extra. Katie sure loves this wrapping…she sleeps and sleeps and sleeps and sleeps.

2010-01-12 - Egg Sandwich

10:15am – Time to do the dishes. What a time saver a dishwasher is. Breakfast of a toasted egg sandwich (I have a recipe to rival any McDonalds) and hot tea.

11:45am – Little Katie’s eyes stay open most of the time now when she is feeding. She’s starting to explore her new world more…

1:30pm – I have to go run some errands this afternoon, but I will make sure I have my cell phone charged and at hand. When you have a child you think about them all the time I find…

4:00pm – I’m back, and Katie slept through the day. Looks like she’s getting the hang of sleeping longer.

5:00pm – My wife told me that Katie’s umbilical cord “remant” fell out this afternoon. Last remant of her “life in the womb” is gone now…

6:15pm – Roasting a chicken in the Rotisserie Oven now. What a great little device.

7:00pm – I find it hard not to kiss little Katie on the cheek when I pass her off to her mother for feeding. Daddy’s little girl…

8:15pm – Little Katie is sleeping and my wife and I are having some Rotisserie Chicken right now. The first round of American Idol is on television. I think I’m losing my appetite…

9:45pm – My wife and I are sitting here on the bed watching American Idol. Katie is between us. We have this black pole lamp with an adjustable head next to our bed, and as I twist and turn it Katie follows it with her eyes. This is the first real time we could see her focus on an object and move her head and eyes in unison.

WHAT I LEARNED TODAY
————————————
1) Even when you are out and about, you mind is on your child…
2) Approximately 8.5 days after birth, the remnant of the umbilical cord will fall off.
