5:23am – Little Katie is still asleep but my wife and I are up and planning the day. There is a lot to do today, and a lot will revolve around little Katie’s sleep times. It’s amazing how life can revolve around such a tiny new little being.
I was watching a television documentary on “Harley-Davidson Motorcycles” this afternoon when my wife brought little Katie to me. I sat her up against a pillow and started to play with her. I was amazed at how interested she was in the television. Cartoons or energetic commercials I get…but a documentary?

Little Katie loves to play with your fingers. For some reason she felt that I had a spec or something on my index finger and proceeded to try to scrape it off. She also likes to push the fingers apart and then together again…kind of like scissors.
Little Katie enjoys the hard-paged book shown in the photo to the left. It has cardboard creatures on the top of the pages that she can grab on to, and the pages are strong enough to not suffer any damage (unlike the pages of the poor Ratatouille book).
Little Katie attended her first funeral (memorial service) this evening. One of my wife’s friends had recently passed away (she taught his children math), and we all attended as a family. A couple of people mentioned how little Katie should be in an ad she is so beautiful.
I spent most of the memorial service in the playroom with little Katie so that my wife and mother-in-law could listen to the speakers. There was a little boy in the nursery and little Katie got a great kick out of watching him destroy the place. Her routine was “look and watch”, “drool over a little plastic toy”, “scream in delight”, “repeat”…
When you pass little Katie the pacifier she knows exactly where it belongs. She will promptly figure out what end is which and put it into her mouth.
