Day #4792 (Sat., Feb. 18, 2023) – Rock Climbing!

It’s Brin’s birthday today, so Ethan’s mom drove Ethan and Bobby to a rock climbing facility to celebrate.  I only had to drop Bobby off at Ethan’s house at 10:15 am, and she dropped Bobby off at our place this afternoon when it was over.  We were worried that Bobby would not be able to go as he had quite the cough and sniffles last night, but he felt fine this morning.

While Bobby was away at Brin’s birthday my wife took Katie to the viola/violin group lesson this morning.  Rather than have an actual lesson, Rosie gave a concert, which is part of the Suzuki method.  She’s the girl who used to cry when she messed up, but I guess she did well today.  She’s got stamina, and is good on technique, but she can’t make the viola/violin “sing” like Katie and Bobby do.

As it turns out, Bobby was the first one to climb to the top of the rock formation (see photo to the left) this afternoon.  I talked to him about it and he said that you had to go to the left and right to be able to make it to the top.  While others went straight up and saw that there was no direct route up, they gave up.  Bobby was the first to attempt to go to the left and right and find footings to proceed up further, and he got rewarded by it.  They had cheese pizza for lunch.

Later this afternoon I showed a video of Alex Honnold and his rock climbing prowess…

This evening we all gathered around the television in the living room and watched some YouTube videos about a guy who was driving through the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.  My wife got her laptop out and followed the route on Google Maps.
