Day #5078 (Fri., Dec. 1, 2023) – Advent Calendar

I drove Bobby to school this morning and then stopped off at Panera Bread for a coffee on the way home. Katie is home sick today.

My wife and I had a meeting with a school advocate just after 1pm today to determine how to best address Bobby’s school situation, his excused absences, and the social worker and nurse who seem determined to get him to attend classes despite his illnesses. She advised that we take it easy this weekend and relax and wait for the Glenwood Principal to respond to our concerns when he returns to work on Monday.

Today is Day #1 of the Advent Calendar (see photo to the right). Bobby has been asking about it since this morning, and when he got off the bus he was asking about it, so now that Katie is awake, we opened Slot #1 after 3 pm. They each received a Knoppers chocolate bar, and Bobby received a $5 Roblox card and Katie received a blanket (which she had already taken to her room the other day).

This year my wife has an Advent Calendar with Belgian chocolate, Maple has a “Dog Treat” Calendar, and I have an Advent Calendar with various coffees. We will be opening these alongside the kids. My wife told me that the Belgian chocolate is delicious, and today’s coffee flavor was “Candy Cane”, which had an amazing aroma.

I asked Bobby what he planned to do with his $5 Roblox card, and he said that he was going to get the $5 “Headless Horseman” that costs $5. I asked him if he could get a regular horseman with a head for $3, and a sword for $2. In this case he could cut the head off, have his headless horseman, and a free sword to boot. He rolled his eyes and said that it doesn’t work that way…

Bobby had his first “sparring” class in martial arts this evening. I was thinking of going, but “This Thing” has gotten the best of me and I decided to just stay home. The Prednisone is working, but “This Thing” is not going away easily. I see that they are talking about another outbreak in China.
