Day #5402 – (Sun., Oct. 20, 2024) – Fishing Rod, Sinker, & Hook!

I have been practicing casting with my son in anticipation of going fishing next weekend. Well, we lost a hook today, so I went out to the store that sold me the rod so that I could see how to reattach a new one. They did it themselves last time, and I didn’t really pay attention, but I did today. Good thing I did as we lost another one later today. We will probably lose more once the line hits the water on Maple Lake!

You can see the various parts of the rod and line in the photo to the right. The fishing rod has line that goes down the pole from the reel to the hook. The “sinker” is a weight that will go to the bottom of the lake. The food on the end of the hook is quite light, so the hook will start to float off the bottom of the lake and be about two feet from the bottom. The food is relatively stinky, so it should really attract the fish. As you can tell in the photo, I put some duct tape over the hook itself so that we can practice casting without fear of injury. I’m thinking of putting a bright neon ribbon or “whatever” on the line at the sinker level so that we will be able to see how far we have cast the line without having to actually go up to it.

The Rhonda Byrne book of “Secret Success Stories” came and I plan to give it to Katie when she comes to visit the “Barn Suite” at some point. I put a little note in the front (see photo to the right).

Our dishwasher is toast! Bobby fell on it a while back and it leaks now. We’re wondering whether to repair it or get another.

We’re also in the market for an automatic gate for our property. Our neighbor has an automatic gate that we like, so maybe we should just leave a note on their gate to contact us as we would like one as well…
