Day #5509 – (Tue., Feb. 4, 2025) – Snow Day!!!

Today is a “Snow Day” for the kids! No School!!!! Yippee!!! You can see the accumulation in the photo to the right.

Here’s the email we received from the school: “Due to slippery road conditions, particularly on side roads and sidewalks, and a snowfall warning issued by Environment Canada for today, all Comox Valley Schools are closed today Tuesday, February 4th. The safety of students and staff is our top priority.

As of this afternoon, the snow is still falling. My wife went outside to try some cross country skiing. Bobby made a snowman (see photo to the left). Maple? She played ball of course…

I called up the Bellingham, Washington office of Social Security this afternoon about Medicare. Since I don’t live in the US anymore, it really doesn’t benefit me, so they unenrolled me for Part B, which normally costs $185 per month. There is a 10% per year penalty, so if I do decide to apply say 10 years from now, it will be $370… It’s doubtful that Medicare will be around by then given the steady losses… At any rate, Part A is totally free, and I automatically get it when I turn 65, and this includes free “hospital” when I am in the States (but I’m sure there will be a ton of hidden charges)… It’s doubtful that they will be able to cancel the February payment, but from March onward I have effectively saved $185/month…
