Day #5747 – (Tue., Sep. 30, 2025) – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Both kids are off school today for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Batman is enjoying the extra hugs as Katie is home (see photo to the right).

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is Canada based. Unlike Thanksgiving or Memorial Day, there is no US counterpart. A bit about it: It’s a solemn day to honor the children who never returned home and the survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. It’s also known as Orange Shirt Day, a grassroots movement that began to raise awareness of the intergenerational impacts of the residential school system. People wear orange shirts to show that “Every Child Matters.” Many communities hold ceremonies, educational events, and moments of reflection. If you’re observing today, you might consider attending a local event, reading survivor stories, or simply taking time to learn more about this part of Canadian history.

The kids had their viola/violin lessons via Zoom today. Bobby invited Esca over this morning but Bobby wasn’t feeling too well so we canceled. Apparently Esca is coming down with something anyway.

Katie did a PE assignment about ‘mind map’ on physical activity benefits for mental health. She also finished math homework about similar triangles and Pythagorean theorem

I took the van and drove Bobby’s eBike to Black’s Cycle in Comox this afternoon to get the rear tire repaired but they were closed due to the holiday. It was raining like mad when I got home so I parked the van out near the Barn Suite. I will leave the eBike in the back of the van in hopes of taking it to Black’s Cycle tomorrow. Katie has a flex day at Vanier tomorrow but surely they won’t be closed for that… 🙂

The show “Parks and Recreation” left Amazon Prime today, but we were able to get it via Crave on demand! My wife went to Telus ‘on demand’ and searched for it.
