There was a bit of drama in the chicken arena this morning. Empress, the mother to Pandora (the spotted hen we already had), and Pandora’s sister “Pebbles” (which is the name that Bobby gave her) are having a bit of time adjusting to life in their new surroundings. It would seem that Pandora does not recognize her mother, or at least wants to tell her mother “this is my place now and I’m the boss”. They call this the “Pecking Order” for good reason, and I’m sure that it will all work itself out.
Things seemed to calm down when my wife let the young hens out to forage and give Valentine and Empress some time in the coop together. Pebbles, by the way, seems to be very daring and adventuresome. When you let her out of the coop she wanders away more and even found a water resource behind the coop.

The 50th CVCDA Children’s Telethon was this afternoon at the Sid Williams Theater and Miss Daisy’s viola/violin class performed (see photo to the right). As you can obviously tell, I highlighted the kids in a yellow circle. I found a great parking spot just behind the theater this year so that was great for a quick entrance/exit!
I had the rather unenviable task of burying “Spot” this afternoon after we got back from the performance. The soil is rather rocky, and tough to dig in, but I did find an “okay” spot near our compost heap.
I’m starting to learn Tagalog on Duolingo.
Empress and Pebbles didn’t go into the coop by themselves this evening but once my wife and Bobby arrived they did go in. My wife had to lift Pebbled up onto the roosting pole. Empress made such a fuss that she ended up putting her in the nesting box.
Pebbles slept next to Pandora this evening. “Sister Act”!
My wife has a Zoom meeting with the physicians from Victoria tomorrow! Who knows if this volunteer position will work into anything paying, but it’s great experience nonetheless.
