Both kids went to school today! Katie did leave early though.
I took some of the gravel near the old barn this afternoon and filled up the pothole in our driveway (see photo to the left). I thought of getting Bobby to come out and help me, like my father used to get me to help him, but I decided to give him a break today. After filling it up I ran the car over it a few times to “pack it in place” a bit.
The driveway plan is to let the rain wash out all the dirt small particles from the pothole and if it has settled quite a bit, fill it up with more gravel, and if not, pour some black asphalt over top to keep it in place. I must say, even just the way it is, it’s nice to be able to drive over this little plot of land and not have to feel that “bump” in the car or van!
Afterward I went to Home Depot to pick up a couple of bags of sand for our driveway. It’s better to get it now rather than have supplies run out once the ice does come. My wife was reading that salt is bad for the animals, so pure sand it is. Incidentally, the sand the guy told me to use is the exact same sand that I put in Bobby’s sandbox. It’s the cheapest they have, but at 60 lbs. per bag, perhaps not the lightest.
Work on the Advent Calendars is in full swing now… They will ready for the kids on Monday morning, December 1st! This year we decided to have a combination of store bought and homemade advent calendars. It’s good to experiment each year and give the kids some ideas of alternatives for what they might want to do with their own kids one day. Along with the “bigger” and “customized” items in the homemade advent calendars, we bought four from the store. They are:
- Magic Science Advent Calendar (for Bobby)
- Shower Steamers Advent Calendar (for Katie)
- Fidget Advent Calendar (for Bobby)
- Essential Oils Advent Calendar (for Katie)
Katie is working on the scrapbook birthday gift that she will be giving to Soulina tomorrow. Her birthday is at 1:30 pm on Dove Creek Road. Apparently some of Soulina’s friends will not be able to make it due to commitments, so she’s very excited that Katie will be able to come.
