Day #5812 – (Thu., Dec. 4, 2025) – E.D.A.S. Stickers

I was thinking about going to Bulk Barn this afternoon to get treats for the kids’ Advent calendars. I recall them having the “Candy Sticks” that Bobby liked so much during our trip to the hotel in Oyster Bay. On the way there I remembered that Dollarama might have them and was closer. So I went there instead. Well they didn’t have “Candy Sticks”, but I picked up a bunch of small chocolates: Toblerone, Ferrero Rocher, little chocolate Santas, a mix of things so the kids could open something sweet pretty much every day of December. There was something oddly satisfying about putting intention into little treats like that, something low-effort but still meaningful.

Both kids went to school today and my wife drove them. After dropping them off, she went to Costco to get gas. She asked me to pick up Bobby as she was stuck in line getting groceries, so I went to the school around 2:30. He told me he’d woken up with a stomach upset but went to school anyway, and then felt like he was going to throw up all day, but somehow didn’t. On the drive home, he told me about the Minecraft “Efficient Home Project” he’s doing with some of his classmates, and how he needs to remember to download the “Minecraft Education Edition” to participate.

Katie made some E.D.A.S. stickers (i.e.: “Everyone Deserves a Smile”) and gift bags today. They decorate and put stickers on these bags that go to homeless people with mittens and other small items to help keep them warm in the winter (see photo to the left).

I lay down for a nap this afternoon and felt fine when I did. But when I woke up and stood up, my left leg was stiff and sore, and the pain got progressively worse over the evening. It reached a point where I couldn’t put weight on it at all. It’s strange to go from being completely fine to barely able to stand just because I laid down for an hour. I vaguely remembered shifting uncomfortably while sleeping, half-aware of it, but whatever it was, the aftermath was brutal.

It’s Thursday, so Katie had Interact/Rotary Club at noon today and “Model UN” after school, which gets out at 4:30 pm. The kids opened their Advent Calendars this evening once both kids were home from school.
