Day #5820 – (Fri., Dec. 12, 2025) – Talking Donuts

Bobby is home sick today but Katie went to school. The photo to the right shows the canva project that Bobby has been working on at school.

I picked Katie up at Vanier at 3:30 pm and we went for a drive. We ended up at Tim Horton’s on Guthrie where she bought an Ice Cap (Tim Horton’s name for an “Iced Cappuccino”) and a vanilla iced donut with sprinkles. She mentioned how Tim Horton’s donuts are a pale imitation of Dunkin Donuts version, and this got us onto a donut discussion. We mentioned how the two types are wheat and yeast. Wheat donuts are like the donuts I had growing up, and are the “old fashioned” donuts that Tim Horton’s sells today. A later rendition that came out in the early 70s in Truro was the “yeast donut”, like the vanilla iced donut she got today. They are raised donuts and are more “light and fluffy” in texture. This lead to a discussion about Krispy Kreme and how they are yeast type donuts on a whole new level…like biting into a cloud.

Incidentally, Katie and I were talking the other day about how cool it would be to have a donut shop in Duncan, BC, which is a town about 1/2 way from here to Victoria. You could call it Duncan Donuts, which would play on the name Dunkin Donuts… I’m not sure if you would get into trouble with trademark laws, but it’s worth investigating! I even went so far as to see if there was a Duncan Donuts in Duncan and nope…nobody has taken up this idea yet…

We didn’t open our Advent Calendars this evening so that means we will have two days to open tomorrow.
