Day #5858 – (Mon., Jan. 19, 2026) – VMUN Woes!

Bobby is home sick today but Katie went to school. It’s MLK Day in the US, so no school for Ethan, but unfortunately school here in Canada.

The “2025 Collage of Photos” puzzle is coming along (see photo to the right).

I went to “The Joint” Physiotherapy this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Our CAA Insurance covered 100% of the visit. Eric said it looks like I injured the inside MCL on my right knee (laxity toward the medial side), which is why my knee feels like it’s buckling. The outside of my left knee is compensating, which is why it’s swollen and warmer. The good news is that the MCL should repair itself, but I need to give it time to heal. He recommended that I go to BD Mitchell Braces in Comox, since they can properly fit me for the right brace—much better than buying a generic one at Walmart. I’m planning to go there and get one. He suggested wearing it for 4–6 weeks and seeing how it goes. He also gave me a knee-strengthening exercise to do.

Katie and I went for a drive this evening. She picked up 10 TimBits at Tim Hortons and I got a black coffee. We talked a bit about VMUN, and how happy she will be to get it “over”. Chances are she will really like it, and will want to go back next year, but it’s the “Unknown” that is vexing her right now. Apparently they rented a hotel for the kids, but they have to share a bed. Katie is worried that she is going to kick the other person out of the bed, which she did to her mom on one of our outings… 🙂 I told her that she should just warn people before it in a light hearted way. I had a friend who used to snore and if we were in a camping out situation in which he would wake any of us he told us to just hit him and he will stop snoring, roll over, and go back to bed. Problem solved… 🙂

Katie will be going to Vanier on Thursday morning, taking two classes, then her mother will drive the kids to the ferry in Nanaimo. After the VMUN conference in Vancouver they will be coming back to Nanaimo on Sunday evening, so someone needs to pick them up.
