Katie woke me up around 8am today. She normally wakes up my wife but we decided that we would get her to wake me up from now on as I’m home on paternity leave for four weeks. I put “Monster High” on the tv and gave her a pair and a couple of slices of individually wrapped packaged cheese and she was as happy as a clam.
It’s so nice to see how excited Katie is to have a younger brother. She is so eager to help out. She hands me the dry wipes and diaper when I change him. She loves to hold his hand while his mommy nurses him. She came up with the great idea to dress him up as a caterpillar this Halloween. She would be the butterfly…sort of a before/after picture. She comes up with great ideas all the time…it was her idea to name our kittens Batman/Robin.
At 10am Nikki stopped by to help out. She will be tending to Katie today as my wife and I are soooo… tired. She took Katie to Chinese Music Class and then to Helen’s place to play afterwards.
I woke up close to 2pm and Nikki was playing with Katie. I let her go and it was basically Katie and I all afternoon. She is into “Monster High” on Netflix these days, so that seemed to entertain her for a bit, but she was still all over the place…I think because she didn’t get much sleep last night. We ended up playing with Legos, writing Valentine’s cards, and a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
The photo to the right shows my attempt to get Katie to learn words. She would write some letters out, like “TDE” and I would make a crazy drawing about the imaginary meaning of the word. In this case a moose who likes to wear bow ties. I also wrote out the alphabet and showed her that she should mix letters without the circles on them with circles that do have circles on them. Like “DOG” or “HELEN”. She decided that she would add circles on the “Q” and “S” so that was the end of that lesson. My wife and I are amazed at how she doesn’t seem to show any interest in spelling. She’s very smart and is a walking encyclopedia about animals but she doesn’t care to spell. Once she does she’ll gobble it up with her passion.
This evening I went to the bank to withdraw some money to pay the nannies. I then went to Trader Joe’s for supplies. I took every opportunity to tell people that my wife just had a baby boy…my first son. I guess you could say that I’m proud? A true miracle…
My wife and I were looking at the hospital discharge papers later this evening. They wrote: “alert in no acute distress, strong cry, easily consoled”.
