Day #3187 (Thu., Sept. 27, 2018) – Daddy/Son Day #1

When Katie was exactly 3 1/2 years old I started Daddy/Daughter Days, an opportunity for her to decide what she wanted to do for the day and for me to take her out and have some bonding time. This month Bobby is exactly 3 1/2 years old, so I’m going to do the same with him. So, today was our Daddy/Son Day #1.

I asked Bobby this morning what he wanted to do. He expressed an interest in going back to South Point Mall where they had a play area with a helicopter. I gave him the option of the Tumble Gym in Southern Village, which he opted for. I was thinking of taking him to Chuck E’ Cheese’s but that didn’t open til 11 am. So off to the Tumble Gym we went.

Arnesa has taken Bobby to this Tumble Gym before and he recognized it immediately. I told the guy at the counter that I had never been here before but the boy had so he said it was okay and off Bobby went to play. Well, he came back to me about five minutes later asking for my last name. I told him and they could not find Bobby in their registry. I told him that our nanny Arnesa brought him so perhaps it was under her name. They hummed and hawed and I confirmed with Bobby that he had been here before. Well, after much discussion it turns out that kids who do not have a membership can only come to the gym on Fridays. Why didn’t they tell me that at the beginning. So, I had to get Bobby out of the play area and tell him that we would go to a better place. Wouldn’t you think that they could extend the Friday option for me today as they already let Bobby go and play? Well…

2018-09-27 - Garbage Truck KitIn determining a better place to go to we happened to pass the Southern Village play area. It really was fantastic. They had many obstacle gyms and slides and rings and drums and swings and “whatever”… I’m glad it turned out to be better than the Tumble Gym.

The last thing for Daddy/Son Day #1 was a present. I took Bobby to WalMart and told him that he could pick out whatever he wanted. We looked at all the construction vehicles and trucks and four-wheeled contraptions of every sort. In the end he chose to get a Recycling Truck Kit (see photo to the left). He happily carried it to the check out and then off to the car.

Katie told me that the kids voted for the best speech today. Miss Fleming will tally the votes and let the kids know tomorrow which two will be on the student council.
