Day #5704 – (Mon., Aug. 18, 2025) – First Day Back!

Today was the first full day back in Courtenay for the kids and I. We had a wonderful time in Victoria, but it’s nice to be home too!

Katie had a 1:10 pm dentist appointment, which is one of the main reasons we drove home yesterday. As it turns out, Kristina is stuck in Lithuania for an extra couple of days due to the Air Canada stewardess strike. She was able to get a flight out via Air Canada this upcoming Friday!

My wife bought Bobby a pair of inline skates (see photo to the right) — something fun and new for him to try.

This afternoon my wife and daughter went thrifting. I gave them the receipts from Value Village and Salvation Army in Victoria so they could exchange items here in town. Katie will be trying on her new purchases to see what works.

On top of all that, Katie is also starting another YouTube channel! She took some “raw” footage today and seems to be very excited about this one.

My son and I never did get the time to test out the RC boat that we bought last week! We thought that we might have some time to try it out on the waters off Ladysmith, but we were eager to get home. I will probably take him out this week to test it out. There are plenty of nice calm lakes around that would be perfect for this task!

Our poor rooster, Valentine, seems so lonely now that the hens are gone, so we are planning to get a few more! Apparently Hatchmere Farms in Merville has a “chicken exchange” at Shur-Kare Feeds every Sunday. My wife emailed them to see if we could drive out and pick them up directly. In this way we can talk to the seller and get some tips on how to perform the “introduction” to Sir Valentine! We will probably need to take the van, and get a large cardboard box, to cart them home…
