Day #4541 (Sun., Jun. 12, 2022) – Kitty Hawk

This morning we all shared a couple of McDonald’s “Big Breakfasts”.  McDonalds is conveniently just down the road.

We stopped off at Kitty Hawk later this morning to see where the Wright Brothers flew their plane (see photo to the right).

We then went to Colington Harbor to see the marina area.  Unfortunately, it seems that it is private now.  We were asking the security guard if there was a public area when a car came up behind us and honked at us till we moved on.

As we left towards the ferry we were hoping that the DQ would be open, but when we found it was opening in 10 minutes we moved on and got the kids a couple of slushies at a local service station.  While we waited for the ferry the lady driving the van in front of us came to talk.  She has been bringing her family to Ocracoke for the past 40 years.

We were happy to get onto the island and to see our accommodations.  We love them.  There is a fenced off area for Maple to play in.  I will be staying in the main house while my wife will be bunking in the cottage with the two kids.  The kids love the cottage area as it has two bunk areas on the upper level.
