Day #5724 – (Sun., Sep. 7, 2025) – Afternoon Volleyball

The whole family went to Shar-Kare at 11 am this morning for their “Chicken Exchange”. The idea was that there would be lots of laying hens there to choose from and we would be able to procure four “girlfriends” for hapless ole’ Valentine. Well, not so fast…

There was only one chicken there, and that was a rooster that the owner wanted to give away for free. After a bit a couple of ladies from Hatchmere Farms from Merville showed up with a cage full of chicks. They didn’t have any laying hens, but expect to have some in two weeks. We plan to drive out there in two weeks and look over the selection. They did say that they want a heads up before arriving. Fair enough. They have a farm to run.

This afternoon the kids were playing volleyball (see photo to the right). I joined in at one point. I still have the ole’ serve and skills, although a bit rusty. Moving and back and forth and going after the ball was certainly more challenging. Katie told me that she and Bobby played a bit of pool in the garage earlier in the day.

Katie and I went for a drive this evening. We talked about school and chickens and starting businesses. To wet the ole’ whistle I went to McDonalds for a black coffee, and Katie picked up a medium fries. After driving around a bit more Katie got hungry again so back to McDonalds we went. This time she picked up some nuggets, fries, and a small strawberry Fruitopia.
