Day #5853 – (Wed., Jan. 14, 2026) – Flex Day Thrifting

Katie has a “flex day” today, which means no classes. Bobby was home sick today.

My wife went to Courtenay Pharmacy and picked up a prescription for me today as I had my first cleaning at our new dentist down the road.

Katie and her mom spent a good part of the day “thrifting” (see photo to the right). They started with 3 stores in Comox they had never been to. Two were boutique-like.

They were very impressed by Auxiliary Society for Comox Valley Healthcare thrift store in St. Joseph’s hospital building. It’s HUGE! And CHEAP! Katie found a ton of jewelry. My picked up enough 1000 piece puzzles for her lifetime at 50% off.

Next up was the Salvation Army thrift store by the airport. They then got some food at McDonald’s and drove to Katie’s orthodontist to fix the bracket that fell off. After that – two more thrift stores!!!

I went to Costco this evening for supplies. I picked up some white wheat bread and blueberry muffins for Bobby, along with drinkable and regular yogurt as he won’t be able to eat much solid food after they work on his teeth this Friday. I saw some sausage rolls that I picked up for the kids as well… I’ve been mentioning Aussie “Meat Pies” to them, and this is a pretty close substitute.

The kids had “Ants on a Stick” for dinner tonight!
