The kids are off school today! September 30 is Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, established as a federal statutory holiday in 2021. It honours residential school survivors, the children who never returned home, and their families and communities. It is a time to learn about the residential school system and its lasting harm to Indigenous peoples. www.statcan.gc.ca
The date also marks Orange Shirt Day, inspired by Phyllis Webstad, whose new orange shirt—a gift from her grandmother—was taken away when she arrived at residential school. Orange shirts now carry the message “Every Child Matters.” People observe the day through remembrance, listening to survivors, and participating in Indigenous-led learning and community events.

My wife let the chickens out this afternoon to wander around and have a bit of a “dust bath” (see photo to the right).
Katie had her first dose of “Ritalin”, the prescription that “The Foundry” gave her the other day. The verdict on it is “out” right now, in terms of how she feels about it, and how it works or doesn’t work. Stay tuned.
Katie and Bobby spent some time playing an online dress-up game, “Dress to Impress” on Roblox. Players create outfits to match a theme, then show off their looks and poses on a virtual runway while everyone votes for their favourites. It’s a fashion competition that combines creativity, dressing up, and a little friendly rivalry.
