Day #5529 – (Mon., Feb. 24, 2025) – Competitive Soccer Issues

The chicken coop is looking a little more lonely this monrning (see photo to the right)!

Bobby is home sick today. Katie went to school but asked to be picked up just before PE class. I am still feeling weak from all my coughing… I thought I might have the energy to go pick her up but her mom did…

Bobby was quite upset this evening so I went to talk with him. He told me that he feels like he doesn’t fit in and misses his friends in Chapel Hill. I told him that we all miss things in Chapel Hill, but there are good things here to focus on as well. For example, he has Dominik & Connor just a few doors down that he can play with at any time.

I learned out later from his mom that he doesn’t like playing soccer anymore because it’s getting too competitive. I guess there are a lot of good boys now and it appears Bobby is feeling that he’s not good enough. My wife and I are strategizing on ways to work around this. He is having some boys over in less than a month to play laser tag on his birthday. That’s something to look forward to.

Bobby is feeling sick to his stomach in the morning. I suggested some Dramamine, the motion sickness pill, to get him going for a little while. Let’s see if this is “nerves” or yet another “bug”.

Katie wants to take more courses next year so that she can leave for Vancouver earlier than expected. We may need to talk her teachers into this, but a potential is:

Semester #1

  • English 10
  • PreCalc 10
  • Science 10
  • PHE 10

Semester #2

  • PreCalc 11 (NIDES?)

Thoughts:

  • French 10 (Katie doesn’t consider French an academic course, it was one of her favorite classes)
  • English 11 (NIDES?)/ Careers 10 (these options would not fit in a standard schedule since English 11 is a semester-long course, but Katie is happy to catch up at home in her own time or fit an entire semester of curriculum in a quarter (if possible).) If it makes scheduling easier, she could do Careers 10 in NIDES too.)
