Day #927 (Wed., July 18, 2012) – The Stepping Stool Tool

My wife told me that Katie put on the lei that I got her the other day and started marching around with sticks this afternoon.

I got an email from my wife just before 5pm stating that she was not feeling the best and if I could rush home. She was feeling tired and dizzy so I suggested she go to bed early.

We started off by assembling the Thomas The Train floor puzzle. When that activity started to get old I gave Katie a “Special Present” (as she calls it)…some colored pipe cleaners. We ended up twisting them around a huge pair of sunglasses that I got for Katie a while back.

Next I played “Bingo” on the guitar and Katie danced around for a bit. Soon it was time for a little lunch…

2012-07-18 – Stepping Stool

I made a dish of grapefruit slices that Katie and I shared. She then sat in my lap in the LazyBoy while we watched Max and Ruby on television. Soon she asked for some cheese (not sure why she is eating so much cheese as of late). I gave her a dish of shreaded cheese, bran flakes, seeds and dried cherries. Soon she was asking for some milk so I heated her up a bottle of milk and we went to the bedroom to watch “Caillou”.

It was starting to get dark while we were watching “Caillou” so I asked Katie to go over and turn on the light. She tried but said that she couldn’t reach it. I sensed that this was a good teaching moment so I said “I bet if you got a stool from the living room you could reach it”. She didn’t understand me at first but when I mentioned it the second time she got it. She went to the living room and got her small stool and stood on it to turn the light on (see photo to the right). I was so proud of her and she was happy that I was. I told her “Katie, tools can be your friend if you use them properly”. It’s a good lesson for her to learn…

WHAT I LEARNED TODAY

1) Katie learned what a tool (i.e.: stepping stool) is today.
