Day #5346 – (Sun., Aug. 25, 2024) – Goose Spit Heron!

My wife went with Christina and Darius around the Courtenay and Comox area in their car this morning, exploring and venturing and shopping and seeing the sights.

We had the van at home, so I offered to take Katie and Bobby out for an ice cream and they responded “YES” immediately. I told them that this was a combined Daddy/Daughter #149 and Daddy/Son Day #85 and I was just the chauffeur. They were to tell me where they wanted to go and I would drive. Katie said that just driving around was what she wanted to do, and since Bobby didn’t give another suggestion or objection, that’s what we did. We pretty well drove all around the Comox area, and ended up at Goose Spit Park! Katie saw a heron and wanted to take a picture (see photo to the left). I started a running joke about how this porta potty we just passed was once used by Ponce de Leon. This led to the conversation of who Ponce de Leon was, and the crazy idea of setting up the Ponce de Leon Porta Potty Service. I said that if I came across a name like that I would definitely have to look it up as it was so weird…free advertising.

I also gave the kids a choice of what they wanted to eat, and their answer was? Drum roll please… A real shocker and surprize! McDonalds! Low and Behold! We ended up at the McDonalds on Guthrie Road & Anderton, and the kids wanted Happy Meals! I convinced Bobby to only have one with an ice cream, but then Katie said she wanted two so that she could have one later. Well, I couldn’t get two for Katie and not Bobby, so we ended up with FOUR Happy Meals, that’s right, FOUR! Daddy had a small black coffee…

Someone posted a “Store Open” sign on the stop sign in front of our house (see photo to the right). We’re not exactly sure, but it looks like the work of a young child. We drove down the road looking for a lemonade stand or something of the sort, but found nothing…

The chickens are starting to get more daring and were actually parading around the front of the “Barn Suite” this afternoon… I’m not sure if we need to start penning them up again?

As I was putting the chickens in the coop this evening I saw a big rat scurrying on the floor then up the wall. Where’s Barney the “Barn Cat” when you need him? I haven’t seen him around as of late… Guess I need to start thinking of some kind of a rat trap!

This evening, while my wife and Christina looked up the bios of old classmates on the internet, Darius, Katie, Bobby, and I huddled around the television in the family room and watched various types of YouTube videos. At one point we each gave a word, and searched for that four word sequence on YouTube, and whatever came up, we had to watch, and the last person to laugh was the winner!
