Today’s holiday in Courtenay, BC is B.C. Day 🎉. It’s a statutory holiday celebrated on the first Monday of August across British Columbia to recognize the province’s cultural heritage, history, and achievements.
Many city facilities in Courtenay are closed or operating on adjusted hours today, including City Hall, recreation centres, and the fire hall. Some places, like the Memorial Outdoor Pool, are offering free swims to mark the occasion.

This morning Kristina’s son, who is a pilot, landed his plane in our small little Courtenay airport and we went to meet him. We were planning on having breakfast at Cafe D’s, but it is closed on Monday, so we had to shop around and find someplace else to eat. We went to the “Hen & Hog”, but they had a waiting list, so we ended up at the “Early Bird Cafe”, but it was closed today as well. After seeing that the “Airpark Beachwood Cafe” was not to our liking, we ended up at the ole’ standby White Spot across the street. After a very nice breakfast, in which Bobby had his breakfast served in a ship (see photo to the right), it was time to head back to the airport so Kristina’s son could fly home to Victoria.
My wife and Kristina then went to the Nautical Days celebrations at Marina Park. I dropped them off in the van and picked them up. After a quick ride home, they went to pick some blackberries on our bushes, and then it was time for Kristina to head home.
Katie and I went for another drive this evening. We ended up at Starbucks where she tried a new selection, a London Fog Latte, along with a cake pop, and I stuck with my ole’ reliable Americano with almond milk.
