We woke up to some rather sad news this morning. Something is wrong with “Spot”, the smallest of the two speckled hens we recently purchased. She was fine when I closed the door to the coop last night, and my wife saw her perch via webcam, but somewhere in the middle of the night, she was off the perch and on the floor. When my wife checked on them this morning she was obviously not well, and got sicker as the day went on. We called the lady who sold us them, and she gave us some medicine, but it didn’t work. As the day went on she she got more and more sick and later this afternoon she closed her eyes for the very last time.
We contacted the lady who sold us the hens to tell her of Spot’s demise, and she offered two more hens, for free! We decided to take her up on her offer! Since it was getting dark, we drove out to their farm to pick them up! As it turns out, these two hens are the mother and sister of the spotted hen we already have.

We brought them home and perched them for the night. You can see our two new hens in the bottom right perch in the photo to the right. Since apparently hens can’t see at night, we’ll see how the reaction to this little “family reunion” goes tomorrow when the sun comes up!
In other non-hen news today, Katie had a very successful sleepover at Emma’s last night and she went with her mother to Winners to shop for some luggage when my wife picked her up. Unfortunately there was nothing they liked in the luggage department, but they did come home with a lot of Christmas decor and Katie spent the evening decorating her room. She also did a lot of science and math homework and my wife was up past midnight checking it for her.
Bobby spent quite a bit of time playing with Ethan today. Despite being tired from all that “Trick or Treat Running” last night he helped his mother bring Spot to the main house to “recover” in the morning.
A bit of more sad news “bird wise” this evening! The Toronto Blue Jays lost the 7th game to the Los Angeles Dodgers in extra innings! The Dodgers were able to come back and tie it up and send it into extra innings for the win.
