Day #5808 – (Sun., Nov. 30, 2025) – Bye Bye Valentine!

Valentine passed away this morning. I buried him out with our other hen, behind the old barn. It’s always sad to see a death, but in Valentine’s case he was such a tortured soul, looking around every corner for eagle to swoop in and “finish him off”… At least he got to go under his own terms.

Soulina came over today to work on homework with Katie. A couple of Katie’s other friends were thinking of coming but they could not make it. Soulina was hungry when she arrived so my wife made her a pizza.

After an afternoon of homework my wife drove the girls to Starbucks. Soulina got a gift card for her birthday and wanted to treat Katie. My wife and I picked them up about 30 minutes later and drove Soulina home.

Later this evening the three of us (Bobby wanted to stay at home), drove out to Hatchmere Farms to pick up two new hens, and return one of the “hens” we picked up during our last visit to Hatchmere. Apparently those two hens were roosters, but it was hard to tell it at the time. So, with Valentine dead, one of these roosters goes back, and two “black” hens come home with us… Hard to follow, I know… You can see Katie holding one of the hens in the photo to the right.

I finished off the Advent Calendars this evening. Tomorrow is Day #1. I think we’ll wait till after school this year to open them, at least until the school lets out for Christmas break.
