Day #6066 – (Sat., Aug. 15, 2026) – Crab Apple Picking!

We have a nice crabapple tree just behind the house, next to a pear tree, and today was the day that my wife enlisted the help of the kids to pick it! The apples are rather small, and more tart than either a Gala or MacIntosh. They are more like a small Granny Smith apple, firm and a bit tart. A great apple for pies, but with lots of sugar and sweeteners.

This afternoon I took Katie out driving. We went to Crown Isle again, but this time she drove from the McDonald’s parking lot nearby to Crown Isle. She has been trying to add one more “unique” activity during each outing so that she can work herself up to more adventurous driving journeys. We were only out for 45 minutes this evening, rather than a full hour, when I took over and we drove to the Real Canadian Superstore for groceries.

At the Real Canadian Superstore we saw that the Smores Kits were on sale, so we had to pick up one of those. I think Katie was hungry, or at least had quite the sweet tooth, as she picked up two large boxes of Arctic Bars! The Starbucks Pumpkin Coffee Enhancer is back in season (see photo to the right), so she had to pick up one of those as well.

I have been telling Katie that she might want to find a therapist who specializes in driving, if they exist. Maybe they can help her calm down more behind the wheel. She will get better and better the more she drives, but if a therapist can help her enjoy the process more, then why not. At any rate she should talk to Daisy and Amy about it and see what they suggest. At the very least they might be able to offer advice on what has worked for them.
