We arrived at the Hillsborough UNC hospital at 12:30pm. At 3pm they wheeled me back to the operating room for knee replacement surgery. I remember yelling “whee” on the ride back…just go get the attendants who were wheeling me to laugh. The last thing I remember before they put me out was putting my arms to my side in a “spread eagle” type of fashion.
After the operation, I was “semi-awake” as they wheeled me to my hospital room. I remember them saying that I never stopped talking and asking me to stop thrashing my arms around.
The doctor told my wife that I was strong and had a good range of motion in my knee. He said that the operation went well. You can see the end result in the photo to the right.
I could not open my eyes for quite a while. One of the nurses handed me a menu to choose dinner from, but when I told her I could not look at it she ordered for me. She got me chicken noodle soup and a grilled cheese sandwich.
It was getting late so my wife had to leave before I woke up. She was not there when I did finally awaken and was looking forward to my call. Katie had a stomach ache all evening and my wife was amazed that it miraculously went away once she got to talk to me. I think this stay in the hospital is bothering her more than we realize. Even Bobby wanted to go see daddy this evening.
