Day #6012 – (Mon., June 22, 2026) – Bike Shopping “Again”

This is Bobby’s last week of school! Katie is off for summer break. Kristina is here with us today and went for a long hike today.

This afternoon I took Katie out to Canadian Tire, then Walmart, to look at the mountain bikes, for Daddy/Daughter Chat Day #50. She enjoyed riding Bobby’s new bike on the trails the other day, and realizes that she needs one with “shock absorbers” for a more comfortable ride if she is going to continue this activity, so bike shopping we went.

There was one bike at Canadian Tire that we had our eye on, but decided to go to Walmart and see what they had to offer. They had quite a few bikes of one particular type that Katie liked (see photo to the right). The salesman was even good enough to take it off the rack for us so that Katie could drive it up and down the aisle a bit. The handlebars were not totally straight, and he offered to get her one that was straight, but she had a ride and got a feel for it and that’s all she really wanted at this stage. Rather than be pressured into buying a bike that she might regret, she decided to think about it.

On the way home we stopped off at Wendy’s so that Katie could get a combo meal for Bobby and her, and a Frosty for her as well. Why no Frosty for Bobby? Well, he placed his order for a “Blueberry Milkshake” at Triple O’s, so we went there as well. $10 for a Blueberry Milkshake!!! How are people ever going to be able to afford these little luxuries as the economy tanks due to the Strait of Hormuz situation!

Kristina arrived back at 10 pm so she will be spending the night here and going to Victoria tomorrow.
