Day #6043 – (Thu., Jul. 23, 2026) – Off To Vancouver!

My wife and Katie left for Vancouver around 9ish this morning. The ferry from Nanaimo departs at 11:30 am!

Once on the “mainland”, they stopped at Canada Place for lunch. They ended up taking public transportation to the Air B&B. It took an hour.

Back on “The Island” I have Bobby a number of options as to what we could do today. We could take his RC truck and boat to the beach, go see a movie, go for a bike ride, go to Benino’s for a gelato, or go fishing… His eyes lit up when I mentioned fishing, so that’s what we’re planning to do first.

I stopped off at “Gone Fishing” this afternoon to make sure that my fishing license was still valid. It expired, so it cost me $6 to get another one. Since Bobby is 11, no charge for him. I asked the guy at the counter what was a good bait to use to catch trout at Maple Lake and he showed me some orange balls with “garlic scent” (see photo to the right), so I picked up some of them. He suggested going fishing in either the morning or evening, away from the heat of the day, so Bobby and I plan on going tomorrow morning.

Over on the “mainland”, later in the day my wife and daughter went to the Museum of Anthropology, which is open till 9 pm today! It’s on the far side of the UBC campus, near the ocean.

For dinner tonight I bought a large Hawaiian pizza at Islander Pizza, Bobby’s favorite pizza and place to get it!
